Dental implants are quickly replacing dental bridges and dentures as the go to treatment for missing teeth. This is because only dental implants provide permanent replacement teeth that are both comfortable and reliable. And, whether you are suffering from a single missing tooth or even a full arch of missing teeth, there is a treatment using dental implants that we can use to help you. By combining dental implants with other restoration treatments, we can provide our patients with a variety of different treatment options. Today, Dr. Chuck Majors is blogging from Bryan, TX to talk about some of the treatments possible with dental implants.
A Treatment that Fits Your Needs
No matter how many teeth you may be missing, we can use dental implants to replace them. Some of the treatments we offer using dental implants include:
Single Tooth Restorations
If you are suffering from a missing tooth, we can perform a single tooth restoration to replace it. During this procedure, an implant fixture is placed in the empty spot left behind by your missing tooth. As it heals, a process called osseointegration works to integrate your implant fixture with your oral structure, resulting in its acceptance as a natural part of your body. Once healed, an abutment is attached to the fixture and the replacement tooth connected, completing the restoration.
Multiple Teeth Restorations
If you are suffering from multiple missing teeth, we can replace each missing tooth with a single tooth restoration. However, if you are suffering from multiple missing teeth that are all lined up side by side on the same arch, then an implant-supported dental bridge may be a better option. For this method, at least two implant fixtures are placed: one of the first missing tooth in the row and one for the last missing tooth in the row. Once healed, an abutment is attached to each fixture and the dental bridge connected, completing the restoration.
Full Arch Restorations
If you are suffering from a full arch of missing teeth, it is still possible to replace each and every missing tooth with a single tooth restoration. However, this process has been known to be expensive, and an implant supported overdenture may be a better option for your needs. For this method, four to six implant fixtures are placed along your arch. Once healed, an abutment is attached to each fixture and the overdenture connected at all points, completing the restoration.
